Norden newspaper Sep. 2006 has an article about Leo Enlund, age 85, who was the first of his family to visit his father's home village Kalax in Närpes this summer. His father Karl Enlund emigrated to Minnesota in 1910 and then sent money to Finland so his brother and two sisters could emigrate. Leo speaks the Närpes dialect perfectly. He said he could speak only Swedish when he began school in MN. Leo, wife Bernice and their daughter Peggy, as well as his brother's daughter Phyllis Enlund all visited Närpes and Överpurmo to meet relatives. They also attended the wedding of Linda Åstrand whose mother's mother's mother was Leo Enlund's sister.
