    The number of Swedish-speaking people increased by 355 people during 2008. That is the first time since 1991 that the number of Swedish-speakers has increased. The Swedish-speaking population is now 289,951, or 5.4%.

    Last year the number of people 65 years and older is larger than the number of people under age 15. The number of people under 15 has not been so low since 1896. The total population of the country grew by nearly 26,000, bringing the total population to 5,326,000.
