The price of E-10 fuel and 98-octane gas is between 1.50 and 1.70 Euro per liter. In the US gas costs about 70 cents per liter - and Americans think that is too high!!
Recently 23 Afghan refugees flew from Tehran in Iran to the Jakobstad area. Most of them were mothers with their children, and a few men. They were met and cared for by the Red Cross. Nykarleby took 3 families; Pedersöre and Larsmo each took one family.
For the first time in the history of the Lutheran Church in Finland, the number of children baptized has fallen below 80%. In the 1980s over 90% of children born were baptized. The large drop in church membership has created a problem for the Church.
