Free Genealogical Program
CateG,
You may want to try the free version of the Legacy program. I have moved on from the free program from the LDS Personal Ancestral File to Legacy and then to the deluxe Legacy which has all of the latest bells and whistles. Both of these free programs have the ability to create GEDCOM files. The procedures are easy to follow and are largely intuitive. I suggest you go to the LegacyFamilyTree web site and chose the free download and try it out. It will cost you just your time. I am very pleased and comfortable using Legacy. David

genealogy software
There are many free genealogy programs available. Go to http://www.google.com and type: free genealogy software in the search box. There are many programs to choose from. You'll find it rewarding to be able to open a genealogy program on your computer and see all your data there in one place, and can exchange data with other people.June

Genealogy Program hosted elsewhere
Hi,
This was recommended to me.
No worries for PC or Mac.
No worries if your enitre system crashes.
One time fee of USD $29.99, no maintenance fees.
I've not done it yet, but I am thinking that this is the route I'll go next.

You choose who can and can not alter the information, you control who has access to the data.Best -

Talko is built around Darrin's software and I have had thoughts earlier about having a collaboration tool around such a database. But - so far editing is much more difficult and slow compared to ordinary Mac or Win genealogy apps. At least I will stay using Reunion (Mac). Probably I will purchase the small app for the iPhone as an addition to Reunion. Would mean that my whole genealogy file is with me when I'm away from my laptop. On the laptop I have several genealogy programs +the Darrin's solution Ilmari mentioned.
