  • Name of the gate

Does anyone know anything about the use of this term? I was told that it refers to this: When a man married and the couple lived with the wife's parents, he assumed his wife's family name. When her parents died, he inherited the property. This situation was referred to as the name of the gate. Can someone explain more about this?

I have to say I have never heard anything like this before, as a word. Of course, it was a fairly common practice, but around the region I've researched the term for the man was "kotivävy" or "home-son-in-law".
