  • Hasse's church choir

    Hi,
A friend in Finland sent me the picture of a sunny Sunday with Hasse's church choir outdoors in the churchyard.

    Oops...

    Syrene,

Some corrections... Our choir, "Vivandi", isn't defined as a church choir here in Finland - we call us simply a "mixed choir" with a really mixed repertoire and we seldom perform in churches. This time our small choir happened to perform in Vörå church also, this as a part of the then ongoing 22nd Swedish-Finn Song and Music Festival in Vasa between the 25th and 28th of May 2006. Other choirs performed in other churches around Vasa this morning.

It was quite early in the morning after a joint party where all the 2000 choir singers were present. Thus the title of the negro spiritual "Oh Lord what a morning" actually had more than one meaning...

The photographer and originator of this photo is Torbjörn Nikus who is born in Vörå parish.

Btw. Second from the left in the back row is Finlander member Göran Cainberg. Second in the back row from the right is Finlander member Kurt (Sohlström) b. Korsnäs.

The folk costumes that show in the picture is from the right: Nedervetil (worn by Görans wife Reetta), Vanda's or "Helsinge" folk costume, a Karelian costume from behind the current border and last a second Vanda costume.
