I came across this song on a website and would love to know what the lyrics are in English:
"Metsakukkia"

Sounds like such a beautiful song. The most I have been able to figure out is that it has to do with forest flowers.

My Dad used to sing a song to me when I was a little girl that I would so love to know the name of, and what the words are to.

All I can recall is one verse but I do not know the Finnish spelling.
In English it 'sounds like' (the best I can recall:

"voie nigh to took ia ca name dat son"

I think my Dad used to tell me that the song meant 'beautiful girls in the country'.

Does anyone have any idea what this song is? (with what little info I have been able to come up with)...

This was the "Häävalssi" in my own wedding ages ago, but the translation was real difficult and I am sure someone can correct the result. I tried to "stay on the line", tho, in case someone wants to figure out what the words mean. There often is no straightforward translation, like "vihannoi" is the verb to become or be green and is in my mind associated with the sight when after the arctic winter everything suddenly bursts green.

Metsäkukkia

This waltz is from beginning a Russian piece. It is written in my Brass Band's note books about 80 years ago with the name "Kurski". It's very popular as an accordeon waltz.

Searching the net gives Scottish musician and composer Felix Burns (1864–1920) as the origin for Metsäkukkia / Skogsblommor / Woodland Flowers (also found name Meadow Flowers). (link)

Flowers of the Forest

Thank you to one and all for the great translation, links and introduction to such a beautiful tune. On "you tube" there are several renditions, both vocal and instrumental, that give life and melody to the words. It is a great joy to read the words in Finnish and hear them put to music with the right tempo and emphasis. This is an experience I will enjoy many times. Thank you again, David.
