The Permanent Residence Card, also known as the Green Card, is being changed. It will have holographic images, laser engraved fingerprints and high resolution micro images, making the card nearly impossible to reproduce. The new features will better serve law enforcement, employers and immigrants. There is a preprinted return address so if the card is lost it can be returned to USCIS. Some existing Green cards have an expiration date and those cards will remain valid until they expire. Other existing Green cards have no expiration date, and those cards remain valid. USCIS recommends that holders of cards without an expiration date apply to replace them with the redesigned version. Also, the new cards will actually be green!
