Wippula a place in Finland?

I have a question on behlaf of a researcher whos relative went to Ellis Island from Finland. His Passport says he was from Wippula but she cannot find it anywhere. can anyone tell me where it is or does it have another name. I tried to Google it but to no avail.

Could it be Filppula or Philppula? There were many people with that name in Kuortane.

Vilppula?

There's a parish named Vilppula, established in 1892. It was earlier part of Ruovesi. About 50 miles NNE of the city of Tampere.

The parish of Vilppula no longer exists. It is now a part of the township and parish Mänttä-Vilppula. My wife was born there and I know something about families, who used to live there.
