Can anyone identify this tree? Took this picture in Skansen in Stockholm. Has large clusters of dark purple, almost black fruit.

Karen,
It looks like an elderberry to me. [sambucus]
EDIT:
Yes, I'm sure it is.
The Swedish name for it is flädersläktet
Google: " elderberry wiki " to find exactly the same tree.Last edited by kivinen1; 01-11-10, 09:46.Best -

Thanks, Ilmari. That definitely is it. It was a beautiful tree and just laden with fruit. I just loved my visit to Stockholm. Wish I had more time to spend. Didn't get to see half the important places to my genealogy. Didn't even get to see the inside of the church where my grandfather was baptised. It was locked.

Too bad about the locked church. It is a sign of the times.
I grew up with a large elderberry tree in our woods. The berries and flowers are edible, the wood is dangerous - so it should be avoided.
You can purchase SAFT FLÄDER at IKEA if you have one near you.
