I've recently received requests for more information about this Great Northern War. Hasse sent me a link to a video and I received a book and magazine from Finland, which I translated. I send this to several people who don't belong to this Forum.. they said it was quite an eye-opener. You can access the material here:

I have an ancestor who was killed by Cossacks in Blaxnäs in Närpes during the 1809 war, and also some ancestors who died in Laihia/Laihela during and after the slaget/battle at Napue. One of them was apparently looking for his fallen son, when he too was slain.

The dynastic politics of all those warrior kings sure landed their subjects in dreadful circumstances. Fearful history, certainly.
